Magnified Grass

What Is Grass?

Grass is ultimately a plant which belongs to a family of other grass types. The family names are Poaceae, Cyperaceae and Juncaceae. There are over 10,000 different species of grass in total.

Grass is globally one of the most important flowering plants. The grains that are harvested from them, the shelter they provide for insects, and the countless animals that rely on it to graze on are a few of the many reasons why grass is so crucial to us and the world we live in.

Some grass species have been selected and grown to be cultivated as turf to be used in peoples' gardens and sports fields. Perennial ryegrass and fingergrass are some of the species living in your garden. Look after them, click here to find out how.
